"¡Dios es grande!, ¡Dios es grande!, ¡Nosotros morimos en Alepo, vosotros morís aquí!, ¡Matáis a gente inocente en Alepo y en Siria!", gritó un hombre vestido de terno oscuro, camisa blanca y corbata negra, quien luego disparó a quemarropa contra el embajador ruso Andrei Karlov.

El hecho ocurrió en una exposición fotográfica en Ankara que llevaba por título "Rusia vista por los turcos".

El momento exacto del ataque fue capturado por el fotógrafo de Associated Press, Burhan Ozbilici, quien se encontraba en el lugar. Su valentía de tomar la cámara pese al peligro de ser baleado, fue reconocido en redes sociales.

El tirador, que fue identificado como Mevlüt Mert Altintas, accedió al Centro de Arte Contemporáneo vestido con el uniforme de guardia de seguridad.

Según testigos, el hombre disparó varias veces contra el diplomático. Luego, fue "neutralizado" por la policía.
